Drywall Texture Matching in the St. Louis Metro

The hardest part of any drywall patch isn’t the patch — it’s making the texture disappear into the wall around it. Texture matching is what we’re known for. Nations Drywall has matched ceiling and wall textures across the St. Louis metro since 2007, on everything from 1970s sand-swirl ceilings to modern level-5 smooth walls.

Textures we match

TextureWhere you’ll see it
Sand swirlNearly universal on St. Charles & St. Louis County ceilings built 1970s–90s
Popcorn / acousticCeilings in homes built before ~1995
KnockdownCommon on newer-build walls and ceilings
Orange peelSprayed wall texture in many subdivisions
Level-5 smoothHigh-end smooth walls — the hardest to patch invisibly

Why texture matching goes wrong (and how we get it right)

A patch that’s flat in a textured wall, or textured too heavy, catches the light and screams “repair.” Getting it invisible takes matching the pattern, the spray pressure, and the sheen — then feathering the edges so there’s no halo. We test the texture on a board first, match it to yours, then blend into the surrounding area rather than stopping at the patch line.

Common questions

Can you match a texture from the 1980s?

Yes. Sand swirl and popcorn from that era are the textures we match most often in this metro.

Will the repaired area be invisible?

That’s the whole point. If you can spot the patch when we leave, we haven’t finished.

Do you texture over a whole ceiling or just the patch?

Whatever blends best — sometimes a spot match, sometimes re-texturing a full plane so there’s no visible transition.
